This Privacy Policy (the “Policy”) explains what type of personal information Lever for Change (“we”, “us”, “our”) may collect, how we use personal information as a non-profit organization, how we protect personal information, with whom we may share personal information, and the rights you may have under this Policy. This Policy applies to personal information we collect or otherwise access, including through this website (the “Site”), email, phone, our events and programs, applications, grants, tax forms and at any other information collection point. This Policy is part of our Website Terms & Conditions. Additional policies disclosed at the time we access or collect personal information may apply, as then disclosed.
If you do not agree with the terms of this Policy, do not use our Site or otherwise provide us with personal information. Where you use our Site or have any other interaction with us, you consent to our collection, use and disclosure of your personal information in accordance with this privacy policy.
This Policy is informed by applicable privacy laws, which may include those that implement the General Data Protection Regulation 2016/679 (the “GDPR”), which applies to individuals in the European Union (the “EU”) and the United Kingdom (the “UK”).

TYPES OF PERSONAL INFORMATION WE COLLECT
Personal information is information that may be used to identify you, directly or indirectly, as an individual. We may collect various types of personal information from different sources, including your:
- Contact Information – Name, postal address, e-mail address, phone number;
- Professional Information – Organization name, occupation, job title and professional interests;
- Internet Information –Information relating to your browser and device;
- Usage Information – Searches you perform and actions you take while visiting our Site;
- Applicant Information – Education, employment, volunteering history, for evaluators and technical advisors;*
- Financial and Tax Information – Taxpayer/National ID, W-9 information, bank account information;
- Audio and Visual Information — Such as voicemail, CCTV footage and video recordings; and
- Voluntarily Disclosed Information – Any information, not above, that you actively disclose through this Site or otherwise to us.
*Applications for employment are submitted through the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation as employer of record.

USE OF PERSONAL INFORMATION
We use personal information:
- Where we have consent (for example, when you sign up to receive communications from us or by otherwise requesting information and to process open calls, competitions or other grant programs);
- To administer our programs and services;
- To improve our operations;
- To understand and analyze visitors to our Site, applicants, evaluators and others;
- To enhance our relationships;
- To identify sources of funding and to fundraise;
- To process applications for awards and grants;
- To make donor, sponsor, evaluator and applicant referrals;
- To make payments (e.g., to our service providers and for honoraria); or
- Otherwise for charitable purposes and mission-driven activities.
We may also use personal information:
As we believe to be necessary or allowed: (a) under applicable law; (b) to comply with legal process and other legal obligation; (c) to respond to requests from the public, government authorities and private parties; (d) to enforce our Website Terms & Conditions and other policies; (e) to protect our rights, safety or property, and that of others; (g) to bring, defend and settle claims; (h) to prevent or stop activity that could be illegal, unethical or otherwise actionable and (i) for investigations or disputes.
Under certain privacy laws, we must have a legal basis to process Personal Information. In most cases our legal basis will be one of the following:
- To fulfil our legitimate interests as described above, for example to process applications for awards and grants, to manage charitable competitions, for program administration and otherwise for charitable purposes. Where we rely on legitimate interest, we put in place, when needed, reasonable safeguards designed to protect your privacy interests, freedoms, and rights under applicable law;
- To comply with our legal and/or regulatory obligations, for example to comply with tax authority requirements and filings; and
- To fulfil our contractual obligations, for example to ensure that we meet our obligations under services agreements.
In certain cases, we may also ask for your consent to collect and use certain types of Personal Information where required to do so by law, for example to send you newsletters which you have opted-in to receive. Where you provide consent, you may withdraw it by using the details in this Notice.
If you fail to provide certain Personal Information to us on request, we may not be able to perform the contract we have entered into, if applicable, with you or your employer, and/or may not be able to provide you with information or services you may have requested.
SHARING PERSONAL INFORMATION
We do not allow third parties to access to your personal information, except as required or permitted by applicable law or in accordance with our policies. Such third parties may include service providers, affiliates, current and prospective donors, donor advisors, evaluators, technical advisors, educational institutions and the public in support of our mission, including with your consent where legally required. For example, we may disclose personal information, on a need-to-know basis using commercially reasonable safeguards (see Protecting Personal Information):
- Within Lever for Change and the MacArthur Foundation;
- To service providers to help run our operations, including but not limited to website administration, sending communications, data hosting, payment processing, managing relationships and facilitating challenges and other programs and events;
- To prospective and current donor sponsors and donor advisors, for sponsorship or other program or service development;
- To educational institutions for research and education purposes and
- As otherwise in compliance with applicable law or to further our mission.
While the use and disclosure of your personal information is governed by our policies, the service providers’, donor sponsors’ and education institutions’ treatment of your personal information will be in accordance with their respective privacy practices.
We may also disclose personal information:
(a) To regulators and to law enforcement to cooperate with investigations or to respond to other requests; (b) when legally required to other third parties (e.g., to respond to a subpoena or other lawful process); (c)To professional advisors and prospective investors in connection with a prospective merger, reorganization or other transfer of our assets and (d) as otherwise permitted or required by law or in furtherance of our mission.
PROTECTING PERSONAL INFORMATION
We store and process personal information using reasonable physical, technical and administrative safeguards to secure it against foreseeable risk, such as unauthorized use, access, disclosure, destruction or modification. Although we make good faith efforts to store and otherwise process personal information securely, we cannot guarantee complete protection. No data transmission is entirely secure, including through this Site.
AGGREGATE AND DEIDENTIFIED INFORMATION
We may use and disclose information that does not personally identify you when necessary for our operations or where otherwise in alignment with our mission.
DATA RETENTION
We retain personal information in accordance with our needs and for legal, regulatory, document retention, audit and tax purposes. Any personal information we collect may be kept until you notify us that you no longer wish to receive information from us or until we no longer have a need for it that is recognized by applicable law.
CHILDREN/MINORS
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13, without parental or legal guardian consent. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child under 13 may have provided personal information through the Site, please contact us and we will take all reasonable measures to delete such information from our databases and not use such information for any purpose (except where required or permitted by law, including for safety purposes). Minors under 18 years of age may have the personal information that they provide to us through the Site deleted by their parent or guardian contacting us and requesting deletion. Please note that, while we make reasonable efforts to act on such requests, our deletion does not ensure complete removal of the information from all systems and applications.

SOCIAL MEDIA
Our Site includes plugins from social networks or other third parties. An example of a plugin is the link to our LinkedIn page.
