Executive Summary

The LGBTQ Center Long Beach (‘The Center’) is a community-based organization located in Long Beach, California aimed at advancing equity for LGBTQ people through culturally responsive advocacy, education, programs, and services. The Center envisions fully affirming communities where all LGBTQ people live in health, wellness, safety, and prosperity. Initially formed as a living room discussion group in 1977, The Center has served on the frontlines providing vital health, wellness, and social support services to Long Beach’s LGBTQ community for over 40 years. Significant achievements include operating one of the first HIV testing sites in Southern California, creating the largest HIV/AIDS case management organization in the city at the height of the AIDS epidemic, and supporting the founding of significant cultural events such as Long Beach Pride and AIDS Walk. Today The Center serves over 10,000 people annually in the greater Long Beach area through an array of programs and services that address the health, mental health, social, and community needs of LGBTQ people and reduce negative life impacts associated with homo/bi/transphobia. The Center also works with community members in geographic regions as far as San Diego and Central California because The Center meets critical service needs that are limited in surrounding geographic regions. The Center is staffed by a team of dedicated and diverse professionals who understand the needs of the community and are committed to providing services designed to empower and improve the quality of life of LGBTQ people and provide a welcoming, safe, and inclusive environment for everyone.
