Executive Summary

TCF serves the Cambodian community - a community deeply affected by the aftermath of the Cambodian Genocide and its subsequent diaspora. With shared experiences of trauma, language barriers, and navigation of a complex foreign system, this community faces significant challenges, particularly in accessing mental health services[1]. Our organization was born from this very community in 1980, established by Cambodian refugees seeking to provide critical support/resources for their compatriots[2].

TCF's leadership is deeply embedded within the community, reflecting its experiences and needs. Our executive director whose English is his second language and many of our staff are of Cambodian heritage, understand the culture, language, and the unique challenges faced by the community. This personal understanding fosters a sense of trust and shared identity, enabling us to effectively represent and advocate for our community's needs.

Through comprehensive, culturally sensitive programs, TCF has made a significant impact on the well-being of the Cambodian and other immigrant/refugee communities. Our efforts are focused on addressing mental health disparities through the provision of direct support, navigation of existing healthcare systems, and advocacy for more equitable access to services. We've trained limited-English proficient community elders in advocacy and civic engagement, empowering them to actively participate in the discourse on health equity and contribute towards systematic changes. This work is amplified by our outreach/education efforts, ensuring that our community's voices are heard, their struggles against inequities are recognized, and their needs are met.

TCF’s vision is to further expand these initiatives, continuing to uplift our community towards improved health, well-being, and systemic equity.
