Executive Summary

Ser Familia is the leading agency in Georgia providing comprehensive culturally specific and linguistically proficient wraparound family services to Spanish–speaking Latinos throughout the metro Atlanta area. The Latino families we serve are in great need of family, social, and mental health services as they face significant barriers to accessing these services. Barriers include absence appropriate services, language obstacles, lack of knowledge of existing resources, poverty levels higher than the mainstream population, inadequate transportation, lack of childcare, and fear of discrimination/distrust in the system. Ser Familia’s mission is to provide preventative family services and to equip Latinos with the tools, resources, and skills they need to move from crisis to thriving. Ser Familia’s family programs include meeting basic needs, crises intervention, mental health and wellbeing (all ages, birth to seniors), family resource centers (based on a national model program), health navigation, legal assistance, domestic violence, financial literacy, evidence-based family and parenting workshops, youth programming (academic, social-emotional, leadership, and mental health), and other support services (such as senior services, art and music, English classes, and cultural proficiency trainings). Ser Familia also has an array of client services including emergency assistance services and basic needs, health navigation, and health services that undergirds client health and well-being. The organization has a fully bilingual staff from a multitude of Spanish-speaking countries, all of whom are comprehensively trained in their appropriate disciplines. All programming is proven and evidence-based, garnering strong and consistent outcomes over time to strengthen area Latino families and the overall community.
