Executive Summary

Since 1960, PACE has been supporting Hoosiers impacted by incarceration through programs that enable them to overcome challenges related to poverty and social injustices. Our mission is to provide a variety of services to individuals and families impacted by the justice system to ensure they are afforded the opportunity to lead productive and responsible lives in their communities. PACE pursues social change with and on behalf of oppressed populations, with efforts focused on issues of poverty, unemployment, discrimination, lack of education, and other social injustices.

Poor urban communities – frequently communities of Color - are disproportionately impacted by incarceration and, consequently, accompanying increases in reentering individuals in need of support. High levels of recidivism within a community are disruptive and have social and economic impacts. PACE addresses this by providing holistic services, such as housing advocacy, job skills training, job placement, family counseling, recovery support services, and access to income supports (i.e., health insurance and transportation assistance).

PACE accepts anyone 17 and older with a felony conviction, or 5+ misdemeanors, that requires assistance. Reentry work requires us to create community cohesion, align resources, leverage systems, and establish diverse approaches. The returning citizens our organization serves are marginalized, they have experienced generations of trauma, have limited social capital, and need a strong network of support to truly transition back to their communities successfully. We are committed to working collaboratively to provide a strong network of community support, a village resulting in positive outcomes for returning citizens, their families, and our community.
