Executive Summary

Bright Horizons offers emergency shelters in three communities across our service area so that victims of domestic violence and sexual assault do not have to travel more than 45 miles to receive services. We offer advocacy, shelter, assistance with filing a protection order, legal advocacy, and support groups. We also have a transitional shelter program and a campus advocacy program. All of our services are available 24 hours a day, so we utilize volunteers to assist with this crisis line coverage and we always have a staff member on call.

We have bilingual staff to reach the Hispanic immigrant populations, the largest minority represented in our communities. We offer support groups in Spanish, and we assist with immigration. We travel to Tyson Fresh Meats monthly to provide outreach and information about our services and other community programs to new immigrant families. We also have survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault on staff and on our Board of Directors to ensure that our services are appropriate, and trauma informed.

Our services are available at the time of a crisis, but we are also there for long term healing and recovery. Our transitional housing program allows families to live safely for up to two years. Families pay a percentage of the income for rent or pay down past debt. Any rent that is paid to Bright Horizons is saved for them and returned when they move out. This assistance provides families a new beginning to a violence free life.
