Executive Summary
A lack of high-quality, affordable child care is an undeniable factor in women's economic insecurity and uneven advancement in the labor force – both in wages, promotions, and leadership – forcing families to make unfair tradeoffs, including women's economic opportunities. An equitable childcare system is a critical requirement for women and families to thrive, but they must be able to envision what that system could look like and how it might fit into their communities and lives. Our project will center stakeholders most impacted by the child care crisis in a collaborative design process to create the evidence-based blueprint for a 21st century childcare system. We will scan and assess possible solutions already underway, educate the public about workable solutions, pilot and test promising ideas generated, then foster consensus and build the political will for action and investment, in order to help unleash the unrealized power and influence of women that will benefit everyone.
