Executive Summary
In order for women to break through the vicious cycle of institutionalized sexism, we need to transform deeply gendered attitudes around caregiving; coalesce existing movements for child care, paid family and medical leave (PFML), and long-term services and supports (LTSS); and mobilize public demand for high-quality, flexible care options that include valuing the work of paid and unpaid caregivers. This project brings together women's, disability justice, and BIPOC movement leaders who have been working successfully over the past decade to transform the way Americans think about care, to imagine the equitable care infrastructure that women and families of all kinds need and deserve. Our team of highly respected thought leaders, advocates, and field-builders will collaborate in an unprecedented coalition to infuse the idea of care as a shared responsibility into communities across the country and to build the cultural and political muscle necessary to forge lasting, large-scale solutions.

Two partner organizations of this project, Caring Across Generations and MomsRising Education Fund, will develop a campaign that will collect compelling stories from caregivers through a hotline that will be disseminated on a national platform. The Care in Common project aims to transform the public’s perception of caregivers and shed light on the gaps in the current long-term care system.
Accomplishments
In the past year, we have rebranded the project as "Care Can't Wait in the States", selected Georgia and Illinois as our first two focus states, increased our presence and strengthened the power of our network, onboarded a partner to assist with the project’s evaluation, increased access to our work through language justice and accessibility, and established a series of coalition working groups.
