Executive Summary

For 50+ years in 150 countries, MSH has focused on people at the heart of health systems, serving as trusted advisors to make foundational changes that advance health for all.

Working shoulder-to-shoulder with local stakeholders, MSH elevates the role of communities in shaping health care delivery. Our partnerships with civil society organizations and ministries of health amplify the voices of persons with disabilities, LGBTQI+ persons, women, and youth whose right to health is often ignored, suppressed, or forgotten. We guide local institutions to identify and address gaps in their organizational capacities, advocacy skills, networks, and resources to mobilize communities and drive health care improvements.

In 2021, MSH proposed working with local organizations across three regions to advance disabled persons’ rights and opportunities, expand advocacy networks, and partner with governments to build inclusive societies. One Billion Voices will organize and empower persons with disabilities to drive transformative change in their country’s health systems and beyond.

Accomplishments

In 2023, MSH worked in 48 countries across Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, and Latin America and the Caribbean to transform health systems, take bold steps to move toward universal health coverage, and tackle the biggest global health challenges. We rapidly evolve to support partner countries as they face disease outbreaks, climate change, and conflict, working in fragile contexts that span Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Haiti, Madagascar, and Ukraine.

Our systems thinking approach prioritizes robust primary health care, efficient data use, and a skilled workforce and increases supply chain efficiencies to delivery quality, affordable medicines when and where they are needed.

Our programs are designed to help shape and implement policies to ensure that universal health coverage programs are inclusive and equitable. From promoting the uptake of effective malaria treatments and prevention in Nigeria to working for better health outcomes for expectant mothers in Guatemala, we partner with communities to take on the toughest global health challenges to prevent the spread of disease and protect health workers, patients, and communities.
